As a professional in Speech Therapy for years, Kathy was deeply attracted to Iyengar yoga during her first encounter in 2013. She is intrigued by the fact that both speech therapy and Iyengar yoga require high degree of precision while at the same time embrace individual differences.
On a personal note, Kathy has been practicing yoga as a regular exercise since 2008. Her relatively flexible body brought her joy in achieving various seemingly difficult poses, but at the same time, these exercises caused pain in various parts of her body. Kathy considered this pain normal at that time, until she encountered Iyengar yoga, through which she learned about alignment, sequence, and timing, of which the appropriate Iyengar practices could eliminate pain instead of causing it. She was amazed by the insight of BKS Iyengar in being able to develop the wisdom of yoga handed down from ancient times into such a precise, meticulous and scientific discipline as early as the 1960s.
Teaching yoga opened a new chapter for Kathy in helping people in need. She believes yoga could be a lifelong exercise for everyone, nurturing both the body and the mind.
Kathy started the TTC (Teacher Training Course) in 2017 with Maggie Tan and Icy Lee. She obtained the Level 1 Teacher Certificate in 2022.
