“I am now in my late 50’s, and started going to yoga classes in 2009, as exercise in addition to running and cycling. Soon after, I attended Iyengar classes and workshops at YOGAŚĀLĀ, and found that asana practice is more than physical exercise. Whilst asana practice brings physical benefits, yoga practice and learning, somewhat like marathon running, helps develop a mindset, which is more powerful than just the "backbreaking" stubbornness to endure and complete 42 kilometres of a run. I was intrigued to find out that one of the world’s greatest musicians, Yehudi Menuhin, himself a student of yoga and a pupil of Mr. Iyengar, has said that Guruji (who does not play the violin) was the best violin teacher he ever had. Through the years, I have learnt to appreciate that the practice of yoga helps develop a more satisfying approach to living. It is a very practical subject which we, regardless of what we do, can benefit from.”
